I wonder who has the numbers regarding the cash value of the Swan Island harvested lumber? I wonder why the state has decided to basically abandon this island with it’s interesting and important history – yet spend so much money and energy to harvest the wood. Who is keeping the books and what story do those books tell. Material cost today is very high. A 2 x4 is nearly the cost of a bag of shrimp. Someone is making and spending the money. Who is accounting for it?
The MANAGER of Swan Island at the time of the blowdown harvest claimed there was $3.2 MILLION removed to the logging yard near Exit 43 in Richmond, for dispersing throughout Maine. The funds gained were distributed to ALL STATE PARKS in MAINE.
Too bad the money did not go to investing on restoring the houses that are left.
